Since day one, SPS has been intentional about building a culture that is inclusive, respectful, and supportive, with a strong focus on employee wellness and career development.About the RoleSPS has an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Technician to join their team. The incumbent will be responsible for collecting data, processing, and distributing timely bi-weekly payroll payments, reconciling accounts and maintaining accurate payroll records, administering corporate policies, checking payroll material and data submitted for conformity with legislation, regulations, agreements and procedures, preparing accurate payroll documents and completing assignments by required deadlines and responding to inquiries from staff. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this is a specialized and complex clerical position, responsible for the processing of all aspects of payroll in a timely, accurate and efficient manner. Considerable responsibility and independence of action is exercised, working within set guidelines. The incumbent will support the delivery of timekeeping services and the implementation of a work scheduling system, make recommendations for improvements, and perform other related duties as assigned.The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively both orally and written, work in a team setting, have good organizational and time-management skills and be able to perform and succeed under the pressure of deadlines. The incumbent will have good knowledge of current payroll and bene?t law, issues, processes and systems, and good working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping, mainframe computer and PC applications, including Microsoft Excel and Word. Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by payroll and accounting courses equivalent to Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) courses plus a minimum of ?ve (5) years of payroll experience in a large, computerized setting, the last 3 being in positions of signi?cant complexity and responsibility. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.This position is unionized represented by CUPE Local 402.
