We assure supportive learning environments, meaningful experiences and healthy relationships that create opportunities to develop resilience, to gain diversity in perspectives and to achieve enduring success for both staff and students.<p>The Parkland School Division has a Regular Full-time (1.0 FTE) Speech Language Pathologist position available at our Centre for Education, in Stony Plain, Alberta.<p>The successful candidate will be responsible for: Student-specific assessment, diagnosis and recommendations for programming<p> Parent and staff education to support students who have complex communication needs<p> Classroom-based programming and supports<p> Assistive technology and/or speech generating devices<p> Collaboration with community programs<p> Maintaining an inventory of materials, assessments, and supplies<p> Maintaining appropriate, confidential records, and provide timely reports <p>Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes and Experience Related experience, preferably with school-aged children with complex communication needs<p> Additional training/learning in the areas of emergent literacy, emergent numeracy, and using alternative and augmentative communication methods<p> Demonstrate knowledge of current evidence-based practices in the area of speech-language pathology<p> Have a track record of being a team player and community minded<p> Have excellent oral and written communication skills<p> Flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity and imagination<p> Good physical health<p> The ability to deal with the emotional and mental stress of working with students with complex needs in a school setting<p> Strong computer skills<p> Be committed to your own learning<p> Have excellent time management skills, flexibility, and ability to work independently and problem solve<p> Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards <p>Qualifications: Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited school of speech language pathology<p> ACSLPA certification<p> Valid driver's license <p>Physical Demands<p>The Speech Language Pathologist may be required to routinely lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Sometimes, heavier lifting may be required to help children move into and out of wheelchairs. Speech Language Pathologists may also use mechanical lifts for students.<p>Ability to work with students in a variety of positions (i.e. sit on Chair or floor, kneel, stand, bend or reach to assist.<p>Ability to walk easily, maneuver stairs and move from one position or place to another with sufficient ease to respond to student need in a timely manner.<p>Ability to assist with student transfer (i.e. floor-chair, standing, sit, standing transfers as needed per weight of student.Working Conditions <p>Speech Language Pathologists work indoors except when supervising children outdoors or going on field trips. Speech Language Pathologists may have the same holiday schedule as therapists, including a long summer break as well as winter and spring breaks.
