Animal Control OfficerThe City of Campbell River is seeking a permanent, full time Animal Control Officer to join our Bylaw Enforcement team. The role - Reporting to the Bylaw Services Manager and working as part of the bylaw enforcement team, the Animal Control Officer performs administrative, inspectional, investigative, and regulatory work related to animal control bylaws. A principle function of the Animal Control Officer is to support community safety through educating the public on responsible pet ownership. The work involves considerable public relations contact and requires the exercise of independent judgment, action, tact and diplomacy within policy, regulation, and bylaw limits. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to humanely handle and care for animals when in control or custody and consistently implement effective de-escalation techniques in high pressure situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills is a must.To be considered for this role, you will have:Grade 12 or equivalent. Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills Level I & II Training Courses from the Justice Institute of BC or equivalent training from a recognized training institute. Must possess and maintain a valid BC driver?s licence and provide and maintain a clear driver?s abstract, as per City policy. Must qualify to be appointed as a bylaw enforcement officer as described in the BC Police Act. Conflict resolution training. Occupational First Aid Level 1. Minimum of three (3) years of bylaw enforcement, policing and/or other regulatory enforcement experience. The successful candidate will be required to provide a clear police Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sectors check.Applicants with these additional skills will be considered an asset to our team:Completion of Animal Control Basic Training. Experience handling and caring for dogs. The current rate of pay for this permanent full-time, CUPE bargaining unit position is $36.50 per hour and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The hours of work are four (4) days on, four (4) days off, ten (10) hour shifts, scheduled between 8am and 9pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch.
