Job details
Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry. Work setting: Medical pathology laboratory. Tasks: Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders. May conduct medical research on human disorders, illnesses, preventive or curative methods. Conduct microscopic and chemical analyses of laboratory samples and specimens. Prepare research papers for publication and presentation. Study the nature, cause and development of diseases and the structural and functional changes caused by diseases. Supervise laboratory activities. Act as consultants to other physicians. Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures. Assist with or perform autopsies and surgical specimen examinations under pathologists' supervision. Remove organs and tissue specimens from bodies in morgue as directed by pathologist. Train resident pathologists and morgue attendants. Supervise junior resident pathologists and morgue attendants. Supervision: 16-20 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC). Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE I and MCCQE II). Specialty residency training. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification Examination. Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. Medical specialization: Pathology. Specialization in laboratory medicine: Anatomical pathology. General pathology. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment.
