In this Senior Counsel, Canadian Disputes and Investigations, Insurance role, you will join a dynamic and collegial team of legal professionals who provide advice in respect of a range of litigation risks for the enterprise. The role is intended to be dynamic, with the successful candidate offering support to teams within the legal department and insurance business on a variety of issues. Job Description/Accountabilities:This is a senior role in insurance litigation, supporting TD Insurance across its business lines, principally property, casualty, and life and health insurance, with accountability in the areas of strategic and tactical legal advice, counsel, relationships and oversight, development of others, and special projects. Oversight of litigated claims involving TD Insurance, including assessing new claims for coverage issues and assigning to external counsel; reviewing and providing advice on matters proceeding to trial, appeal, or posing significant risk to TD Insurance or its insureds.Providing legal advice to TD Insurance on matters such as class actions, coverage issues, first-party claims, underwriting, special investigations and internal processes. Assessing and guiding external law firms by performing quality control, analysis of metrics, and relationship management.Directly instructing external counsel in respect of litigation at all levels of court in Ontario and other provinces; note, however, that this role does not involve in-court advocacy.Identifying and proactively communicating key legal risks and mitigation strategies, while ensuring awareness among relevant stakeholders and other members of the TD Legal team.Provide best in class litigation advice that is integrated with the strategies and objectives of the business, the Litigation Department and consistent with the enterprise-wide risk policy.Provide advice to other members of the Legal Department and TD Insurance with respect to contractual interpretation, pre-litigation dispute resolution and litigation risk analysis.Provide regular oral and written reporting to senior members of TD Insurance and the Litigation Department, as well as other control groups, business executives and various risk committees.Provide guidance and training to business and legal partners through presentations on best practices, privilege, developments in the law, and emerging risk areas.Support development and/or implementation of policies, procedures, and solutions that mitigate risk and enable the achievement of business/enterprise priorities.Work closely with other control groups. Build and maintain positive working relationships by effectively communicating and regularly sharing information, learnings, and knowledge with internal and external business partners.Contribute to high priority special projects and other Legal Department initiatives.Qualifications/Skills/Experience: Law degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Ontario.Possess 5+ years of post-call litigation experience working with alaw firm,
