<p>TEACHING VACANCY Posting Date: September 6, 2024 <p>INTERNAL POSTING No. 2024-042E <p>TERM SPECIFIC DISTRICT 1.0 F.T.E. TERM-SPECIFIC INCLUSIVE EDUCATION DISTRICT COUNSELLOR (ITINERANT) Term: September 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025 The District Counsellor will have the skills, experience and training to work collaboratively with other members of the Inclusive Education Team (both school and district based) as well as the school-based team (SBT) to improve student learning and well-being. This position may also include working with Indigenous students and families on and off reserve. The District Counsellor will have a key leadership role for implementing the district vision for student support throughout the district. They will help provide leadership as well as support a strong working Inclusive Education Team. This position will include working closely with the District Child Care Counsellors to promote safe and inclusive schools. Providing district leadership in the area of mental health is also a key priority. As a team member of the Inclusive Education Department, the District Counsellor will: <p> provide mental health supports for the students of the Fraser Cascade School District - which includes both students attending school and those working remotely; <p> be willing to support students and families both at school, at home as well as off-site locations which includes supporting students and families on reserve; <p> work flexible hours to meet the needs of students and their families, including after school and evening times; <p> prioritize the needs of students: kindergarten grade 12, district wide; <p> work collaboratively with the entire Inclusive Education Department to support the needs of all priority students; <p> directly support and supervise the District Child Care Counsellors. Provide the following supports: <p> provide direct counselling and support to students and their families; <p> provide leadership to all staff in the area of mental health; <p> act as an advocate for the students and their parents; <p> when appropriate, participate as a member of the school-based team; <p> provide direct instruction to students in areas such as peer helping, conflict resolution, social skills and life skills; <p> consult with school-based teachers, counsellors, district personnel and administrators regarding priority students; <p> support schools dealing with issues regarding student safety and well-being which may include assisting in the developing of safety plans where appropriate; <p> support school-based counsellors, child care counsellors and Indigenous Support Workers in working with children and youth; <p> be knowledgeable of community resources and connect/collaborate with them when necessary; <p> support the district initiated Open Parachute mental health program. MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: <p> a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent; <p> Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent; <p> two years satisfactory teaching experience; <p> valid B.C. Teaching Certificate. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: teaching or other pertinent experiences in other settings such as Child Youth Mental Health, The Maples, ADTP or provincial resource institutions; <p> previous counselling experience at the elementary or secondary level; <p> have experience working in a district or centralized capacity in inclusive education; <p> experience supervising staff; <p> strong working knowledge of Inclusive Education including writing Individual Education Plans and coordinating School Based Team meetings; <p> traini
