People like you!This is supervisory work involving responsibility for the repair, general maintenance and installation of municipal sewer connections with the use of trenchless technologies. The Foreman 1 - Sewers plans, assigns, schedules, reviews, evaluates and may participate in the work of truck drivers, equipment operators and labourers engaged in installing and repairing sewers including connecting sewer lines to mains; locating and capping unused lines; locating, installing and adjusting the level of manholes and catch basins and removing blockages from house connections and drains through the means of trenchless technologies. The incumbent directs operations involving excavating and backfilling trenches; inspects work for workmanship and conformance with specifications; determines need for material and equipment. Duties also include preparing time sheets and records; investigating public complaints and maintaining effective public relations with the community; ensuring the safety of work crews and the public by advising and enforcing observance of accident prevention methods and precautions; disciplines and motivates employees in their crews. The Foreman 1 - Sewers acts for the City in processing and submitting confidential reports in connection with employee grievances and may be required to give evidence on behalf of the City at formal hearings and before arbitration boards. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of grade 12 supplemented by related technical courses plus sound trenchless rehabilitation related experience including some experience in a supervisory capacity, or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures and materials, tools and equipment used in the completion of trenchless installation, rehabilitation and maintenance duties in the work supervised; the hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. Ability to plan, schedule, assign, check and supervise the work of subordinate crews; read and work from blueprints, sketches and plans and prepare and maintain clerical records related to the work; establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, other employees and the public. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and material used in the work.
