Job details
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work site environment: Child welfare. Personal and social adjustment and health (substance abuse, gambling, behaviour disorders). Work setting: Group home. Work in employer's/client's home. Various locations. Tasks: Prepare reports or case histories. Appraise clients' needs or eligibility for specific services. Implement life skills workshops. Assess client's relevant skill strengths and development needs. Housekeeping activities. Food preparation. Provide suicide and crisis intervention. Resolve conflict situations. Supervise activities of clients living in group homes and half-way houses. Supervise children's visits with parents to ensure their safety. Implement substance abuse treatment programs. Implement behaviour management programs. Conduct individual and group counselling sessions. Liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients. Develop service intervention logic models and outcome measures. Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs. Screen, recruit and train volunteers and support staff. Accompany clients to appointments and social outings. Supervision: No supervision responsibility. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). Mental health first aid Certificate. Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate. Cultural Awareness Training. First Aid Certificate. CPR Certificate. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Child Abuse Registry check. Driver's validity licence check. Driving record check (abstract). Medical exam. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to work independently.
