Employment Opportunity: Director of Equity and Community Supports (full-time, permanent, subject to a probationary period)Established in 1789, the University of King's College is Canada's oldest chartered university and is associated with Dalhousie University. A small and extraordinarily lively academic community located in Halifax (Kjipuktuk), Nova Scotia, King's is known nationally and internationally for its highly acclaimed interdisciplinary programs in the humanities, including its renowned Foundation Year Program, its professional programs in journalism and its fine arts programs in creative writing. King's is a community where students, faculty, alumni, and staff work to bring greater understanding, creativity, and compassion to the world.Reporting directly to the President, the Director is a new position at King's that will be part of the senior administrative team. The Director will support the coordination and integration of EDIA principles and practices throughout King's academic, teaching, and research mission and strategic direction. The successful candidate will provide inspirational and strategic leadership in the development of a transformational university culture that values, supports, and promotes equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and Indigenization at King's.They will work in close collaboration with the Vice-President (particularly in relation to academic matters) and the Dean of Students (in relation to supporting students) and with other senior university administrators, faculty, student support staff, student leaders, academic and other programs to increase awareness and understanding to make King's a diverse and inclusive community for all members of the community. The Accessibility Officer, Sexual Health & Safety Officer, Indigenous Student Support and Outreach Coordinator and the Student Support Advisor will report to the Director of Equity and Community Supports. The Director of Equity and Community Support shall work with others to ensure collaboration and coordination across the broader community supports team at King's.The Director will:Support the members of all equity-deserving groups, including all those protected by human rights laws;Play a leadership role in the commitment of King's to protecting all members of the King's community from racism, ablism, sexism, discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, antisemitism, Islamophobia and any other form of discrimination on the basis of personal characteristics;Support the work of King's on Indigenization, recognising its distinctness from EDIA work;Provide information, take proactive measures and be available for consultation to all members of the university community on issues concerning equity, diversity, inclusion, discrimination and harassment;Coordinate initiatives to raise awareness and educate the university community on issues related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility;Support establishment of EDIA plans, initiatives, and capacity within academic programs and academic support units;Support the development and implementation of programs and events that celebrate diverse cultures, identities, and perspective;Support the Board of Governors in its responsibility to oversee the university's work on EDIA;Work with all committees of the university with a role in advancing EDIA, including committees addressing equity as an overarching theme and those addressing particular dimensions of equity, including accessibility, sexualized violence, and the recently established Mawagnutma'tmnej Advisory Circle;Collaborate with counterparts at Dalhousie University, other postsecondary institutions, the Government of Nova Scotia and other public bodies;Represent King's in committees and forums addressing provincial or national work and collaboration on equity, diversity and inclusion;Build partnerships to sustain the advancement of EDIA and complements the efforts of advancing our institutional commitments
