Duties include processing, reviewing and issuance of building permit applications and conducting the necessary field reviews to ensure compliance with all parts of the BC Building Code (including all building types), the BC Plumbing Code and other applicable standards, bylaws, acts and regulations. It also includes performing compliance and enforcement actions to uphold the FVRD Building Bylaw and other FVRD bylaws. The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical information and assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects and other regional district staff on matters related to the scope of this position. You must also be physically able to conduct field review, navigate uneven terrain and move within structures under construction, including up and down stairs. You will exercise considerable independent judgement in conducting the technical aspects of the work while unusual problems or policy matters are discussed with a supervisor. The incumbent will also be responsible to provide technical assistance to the Building Officials I and 2.The ideal candidate must have:Building Officials' Association of British Columbia, Level 3 Building Official-in-Training Program (BOIT*) and obtain BOABC Level 3 Qualification within 24 months, or Building Officials' Association of British Columbia, Level 3 Qualification** or Building Officials' Association of British Columbia, Level 3 Certification*** (preferred), and Ability to obtain Plumbing Official Level 1 Certification. Must possess a valid Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia. Five (5) years related experience in the building construction industry; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.The start rate for this Union position is $42.47 (2024 rate) per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package.
