Nanaimo is truly an extraordinary community that is home to Vancouver Island University and is rich in parks, recreational, cultural and social amenities.Lifeguard/InstructorPosition OverviewThe City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Lifeguard/Instructor. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Aquatics, Aquatic Coordinator, or Aquatic Supervisor, the incumbent performs lifeguard and aquatic instructional program procedures as per facility policy. Responsible for the supervision and control of activities, safety standards, and cleanliness of aquatic facilities. Exercises mature judgment in carrying out instructional skills and general lifeguarding duties.QualificationsApplicants must have completed Grade 10 and have the following qualifications: Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification C.P.R. ?C? Certification National Lifeguard Certification - Pool Option Satisfactory Criminal Record Check Experience teaching aquafit classes is considered an asset.Additional InformationThis is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week; evening and weekend shifts will be included. The hourly wage is $23.74 increasing to $24.99 upon successful completion of probation (Jan 2024 Rates).Shortlisted applicants may be required to undergo a criminal record check and/or a verification of their education credentials.
