Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Fixture manufacturer. Wood products manufacturer. Manufacture. Tasks: Set up, program and operate one or more computerized or manual woodworking machines. Fabricate or repair wooden parts for furniture, fixtures and other wood products. Operate preset special purpose woodworking machines to fabricate wood products. Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions. Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment. Replace parts as required. Operate and set up machines to perform repetitive machining operations. Clean and maintain work space. Verify dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers). Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery. Enter codes specifying speed, feed and cut of the toolpath for computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. Program CNC machine tools. Equipment and machinery experience: Computerized woodworking machine. Drills. Routers. Sanders. Saws. Use computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Own transportation. Own vehicle. Public transportation is not available. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Repetitive tasks. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Tools. Steel-toed safety boots.
