This position is assigned to the school based team to provide support for students. Working under the supervision of the Principal/Vice Principal, and under the general direction of a teacher, the Education Assistant will work directly with students to assist with social, emotional, behavioural, physical and academic needs. This is position includes supervision of students in non-classroom times such as before school, recess, lunch period, and/or after school. Food safe course completion would be an asset.<p>All awarded applicants will be required to join the CUPE Local 748 Union. <p> <p>Note: A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check will be required from successful applicants, with a review every five (5) years. <p>This position is due to a transfer to temporary position. This position will end on June 27, 2025 or until the return of the incumbent. <p>When the employee returns to the district, the awardee will revert to their former position. Should the incumbent retire or resign (in writing) from the district, the current holder of the position will own the position from that date forward.<p><p>Responsibilities will vary and may include the following: <p> - facilitating student learning individually or in small groups<p> - documenting daily progress and assisting in the collection of data for the purpose of evaluating student progress<p> - supporting students in learning social behaviour or life skills<p> - supporting students who have intense, aggressive/non-compliant behaviour through the guiding principles of positive behaviour support<p> - carrying out personal and health care routines i.e. assisting in the student's personal care such as feeding, dressing, toiletting, physical support and lifting<p> - supporting learning and skill development activities in worksite and community based settings<p> - providing information to teachers for home/school, formal/informal communications while maintaining confidentiality<p> - monitoring and assisting students during unstructured time such as recess, lunch hour, before and after school periods and between classes<p> - attending meetings as part of the school based team<p> - using a wide range of equipment including adaptive technology, augmentative communication devices and computer software<p> - demonstrating a positive and respectful working relationship as part of a collaborative team<p><p>Required Qualifications: <p>College of the Rockies SPEDA Course; Selkirk College Classroom and Community Support Worker (CCSW) Program and/or equivalent college program or minimum of one (1) year college level training in the Human Services field with a focus on training in behaviour management and students with special needs.
