Responsibilities
Tasks

Design prosthetic and orthotic devices, such as artificial limbs, braces or supports based on physicians’ prescriptions and examination of patients

Ensure the information on prescriptions is accurate

Fabricate prosthetic and orthotic appliances
-
Fit and make adjustments for proper fit and comfort
-
Repair, build and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances or footwear
-
Assemble or build prosthetic and orthotic appliances according to drawings, measurements and plaster casts

Examine and measure patients to develop working sketches of appliances
-
Take body or limb measurements of patients

Interpret physician's specification

Make and modify plaster casts

Repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment
