Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Noisy. Dusty. Work setting: Wood products manufacturer. Millwork shop. Millwork/pre-fab shopwork. Installation. Furniture manufacturing company. Tasks: Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule (and possibly review) activities of workers. Set up machines and equipment. Set up, program and operate one or more computerized or manual woodworking machines. Saw, trim and plane rough lumber into dressed lumber of various sizes. Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions. Operate gluing machines to glue pieces or wood together or press and affix wood veneer to wood surfaces. Make minor adjustments and repairs. Install hardware on furniture and fixtures. Fabricate or repair wooden parts for furniture, fixtures and other wood products. Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment. Assist trucks and delivery drivers to load and unload vehicles. Assemble wooden or metal furniture and fixture parts to form subassemblies and complete articles. Read blueprints, written specifications and production drawings. Assemble wood products such as window sashes, doors, boxes, pallets, ladders and barrels. Operate preset special purpose woodworking machines to fabricate wood products. Read blueprints and drawings. Supervision: 3-4 people. Cabinetmakers. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Forklift Operator Certification. Equipment and machinery experience: Saws. Gluing machines. Sawing machine. Area of specialization: Kitchen cabinets and vanities. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Standing for extended periods. Weight handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Safety equipment/gear. Steel-toed safety boots. Ear plugs. Gloves. Safety glasses/goggles. Screening questions: Are you currently legally able to work in Canada?.
