We are looking for a self-motivated team player with experience in public practice, and an interest in pursuing a career in client service. The position is for in-person work at our Red Deer, AB office.
Preference will be given to candidates with strong communication and technical skills, knowledge of CaseWare, Taxprep, and Microsoft Office and the ability to manage a client workload and relationships. Candidates with prior public practice accounting experience are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct compilation, review, and tax engagements
- Prepare financial statements and corresponding notes
- Apply knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE) and Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations (ASNPO)
- Perform analysis of complex accounting issues
- Prepare personal, trust and corporate tax returns (and other tax compliance slips) ensuring compliance with government standards
- Prepare year-end tax forms (T4s and T5s)
- Complete bank and other account reconciliations
- Prepare payroll, GST and government reports
- Respond to client questions and queries
- Identify technical issues and discuss with engagement partner
- Update engagement partner on the progress of engagements
- Prepare professional correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining findings, facts and highlights resulting from the client engagement
- Set-up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients
- Develop a thorough understanding of company's services and the businesses and industries we serve.
- Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
- Lead engagement teams while coaching and mentoring junior team members
- Build positive working relationships with staff to effectively manage work-flow and client needs
- Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies for various clients
- Keep up-to-date on the content and practical applications of tax, accounting and assurance standards, and know how to access and research professional and technical materials
- Design and review processes, procedures and workflow within the department
- Collaborate with other senior managers and partners for capacity and resource planning

- Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Taxprep, Quickbooks, Sage and QBO is beneficial
- Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Office 365
- Extensive knowledge of and experience working with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations (ASNPO) with a strong working knowledge of corporate and personal income taxes
Required qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or Business Administration
- Completion of Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- 5+ years of relevant manager experience in public practice in Canada
- Ability to mentor, coach and develop junior staff
Compensation & Benefits
The expected salary for this position is $90,000-$110,000 per year
