Timmerman Timberworks is a leader in the Canadian mass timber industry and specializes in the design, supply and installation of heavy timber and structural wood elements such as CLT, Glulam and NLT. Established for over 20 years, our team continues to find niches in wood design bringing the most innovative design/builds to the industry.
We are currently looking for an Experienced or Apprentice Carpenter who has wide range of talents and is looking for a new opportunity in the industry.
The ideal candidate will have:
- knowledge of carpentry and of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
- knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
- knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and requirements
- the ability to prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- the ability to measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials
- the ability to build foundations, install floor beams, lay sub flooring and erect walls and roof systems
- the ability to fit and install trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
- Intermittent travel is required
*RESPONSIBILITIES*
Shop duties:
- hand cut heavy and/or mass timber members according to layout/blueprints
- move/load timbers with forklift and other heavy equipment
- test-fit timbers together prior to construction
- sand, stain and finish according to plans
- operate and maintain power tools and chisels
- keep shop clean and free of obstacles
Sawmill/Planer duties:
- plane timbers in preparation for layout and cutting
- organize timber bundles for safe storage and loading
- load timbers as/when required
On-Site Construction duties:
- site and work preparation
- put up scaffolding
- work with crew to join structure together
- work as required to install decking/enclosure systems
- Hoisting and rigging
*Job Requirements & Ability*
The incumbent must meet these requirements:
- 5 to 10 years carpentry experience
- the ability to work in cramped areas or at considerable heights
- the ability to work outside at various times of the year and experience a considerable range of environmental conditions
- the ability to use math skills in this trade
- the stamina to be on your feet for long periods of time
- good physical condition to carry materials
- the ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- effective verbal and listening communications skills
- the ability to read building specifications, blueprints and as-builds
- the ablilty to travel to different work locations
- sound work ethics
- Working At Heights Training
- Experience with heavy timber and/or mass timber (CLT, Glulam, NLT) is an asset
Remuneration is based on experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00-$30.00 per hour
