Agricultural and Food Security PlannerTemporary Part-Time Position(Approximately 18 Months)The District of Saanich is one of the four core municipalities within the Capital Regional District. The community is home to 117,000 citizens and is comprised of urban, suburban and rural areas, and 12 diverse neighborhoods. Saanich is known for its progressive initiatives in the areas of Environmental Protection, Climate Change, and Community Planning. Our Official Community Plan highlights agriculture as a key component of community well-being. Saanich is seeking an Agriculture and Food Security Planner to implement priority actions identified in the District?s Agriculture and Food Security Plan. The successful candidate will be innovative and self-motivated, with a focus on customer service. Skill sets will include thorough knowledge of agriculture and food security issues, legislation and best practices, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will be called upon to undertake a wide variety of municipal planning work including: developing, updating and maintaining plans, policies, regulations and guidelines; designing and delivering public engagement processes; coordinating and partnering with local stakeholders on initiatives and outreach; liaising with committees on plan implementation; developing education and outreach materials; preparing grant submissions; writing planning reports and correspondence, and undertaking research and analysis. Requirements include an Undergraduate Degree in environmental studies, agricultural sciences, social sciences, community development, urban planning or related discipline; three years experience including agriculture, food policy and sustainable food systems issues in a municipal setting; and a valid Class 5 Driver?s Licence. Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners or British Columbia Institute of Agrologists is an asset. Consideration may be given to candidates who hold an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will work 17.5 hours per week. This position is for a 18 month term with the possibility of extension(s). This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $49.41 per hour and an excellent benefits package.
