The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 22,000 citizens located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay and is known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community.OverviewThis is aquatic work in instructing water safety programs, on an assigned shift, at an outdoor and/or indoor aquatic facility. An incumbent of this class performs a variety of instructional and recreational aquatics programs and leisure play activities for all age groups in accordance with established practices and procedures, exercising tact and firmness in dealing with juvenile and adult patrons. The more difficult or unusual matters are referred to a superior who checks and reviews work performance in terms of the effectiveness of the aquatic programs and services rendered, and in terms of conformance with established practices and proceduresQualificationsCompletion of Grade 10 Bronze Cross Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED (current within 3 years) Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification (current within 2 years). Minimum age of fifteen (15) years.RequirementsSound knowledge of water safety program instruction for all age ranges and for a variety of community groups. Working knowledge of instructional techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and leisure play activities. Demonstrated ability to teach learn to swim programs and to instruct in these skills set by relevant authorities. Working knowledge of community recreation principles and practices, including safe and proper use of equipment and facilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patrons. Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work.
