Malahat Nation is looking for the right candidate to join our Early Learning Child & Family Supports team! We are looking for fun, energetic, dependable and organized staff. Our staff are offered a pension and benefits plan, and opportunities for professional growth and development.PURPOSE:Reporting to the Director of Early Learning, Child and Family Support Program Lead will support a team of staff members to provide resources, supports, and workshops and create a safe welcoming environment to children, youth, and families at Malahat Nation including but not limited to health, wellness, and culture. This is a fulltime permanent position working up to 35-hours per week, in office, with flexible work hours including some evenings and / or weekends as needed, with local to moderate travel required.RESPONSIBILITIES:Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Indigenous peoples who represent the children and their families. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the community: acts as a liaison and advocate for children and families as required. Lead, supervise, and support team members. Support team in developing and implement specific strategies to build healthy relationships for children and youth?s well-being within the family. Support the team in assisting families with household management, facilitate their role in the planning process, and support their participation in community resource networks. Coordinate sustainable community resources to support the development of children. Promote and facilitate access to formal and informal support networks, such as relatives and friends, peer group, kinship/foster parent organizations, and/or community resources, schools, and service agencies. Support team to build listing of resources and supports located at Malahat Nation and in the broader community. Work collaboratively with outside agencies including but not limited too Kwumut Lelum Child and Family Services Prevention Team, the Cowichan Valley School District Team, Aboriginal Infant Development and Sundrop Child Development etc. Connect and work collaboratively with local Elders for support on building healthy families. Support team in planning and implement workshops, programs and training opportunities for children and families. Support in building collaborative team?s at Malahat Nation Work collaboratively to plan and implement programs i.e. food security, parent support groups etc. Attend relevant training, education, and conferences as applicable. Other job-related duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Diploma or Degree required in Human Services or related field with minimum 2-year experience or combination of education and experience is required Minimum of 1-year leading and supervising a team Minimum of 1-year experience working with Indigenous communities preferred specifically children and families Knowledge of Indigenous culture including land-based activities, spiritual understanding, importance of collaboratively working with our elders and familiarity with community preferred Strong understanding of UNDRIP and DRIPA CPR and standard First Aid training is required Criminal Record Check (CRC) including vulnerable sector search prior to employment required Class 5 BC Driver License with Dr
