Job details
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year. Work setting: Remote location. Various locations. Tasks: Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy. Drive lighter, special purpose trucks. Load and unload goods. Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Pay and receive payments for goods. Perform brake adjustments. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Perform preventive maintenance. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Transport and handle dangerous goods. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Air Brake (Z) Endorsement. Driver's License (Class 1 or A). Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports. Bill of lading. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Type of trucking and equipment: Tractor-trailer. Transportation/travel experience: Short-haul. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Driving record check (abstract). Drug test. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel for extended periods. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Cellular phone. Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Reliability. Team player. Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years.
