The community is the centre of recreation in the Shuswap and offers a unique and attractive place to live, work and play.Planning AssistantCompetition Number: 17-2024Position Type: Regular Full TimeClosing Date: Tuesday, November 26, 2024In compliance with Article 10.01 of the Collective Agreement, resumes are invited up to 4:00 p.m., November 26, 2024.The Planning Assistant supports the Development Services Manager and the Planner by facilitating effective land use and development within the District. This position is primarily responsible for the intake and processing of various land use applications, as well as responding to public inquiries related to planning processes. The Planning Assistant will play a key role in preparing comprehensive reports, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing Geographic Information System (GIS) and mapping supports to enhance planning activities and community engagement.Qualifications & Skills:Diploma or degree in urban planning, geography or a related field, preferred. Minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably in local government. Proficiency in GIS software and mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro) as well as Microsoft 365. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated understanding of bylaws, regulations, and planning practices relevant to land use. Ability to read architectural and/or engineering plans. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Exceptional problem identification and resolution skills, with a strong emphasis on sound decision-making processes that prioritize customer service while effectively incorporating risk tolerance. Ability to effectively organize, streamline, prioritize and coordinate various tasks simultaneously under workload and deadline pressures while maintaining quality performance, accuracy and attention to detail. An appropriate blend of education, skills and experience may be considered.Compensation: $38.93 per hour in compliance with Schedule A of the CUPE 1908 Collective Agreement.
