*Position Overview: *
The Counsellor at Last Door will provide person-centered, recovery-based, and culturally appropriate counseling services to clients with a diverse range of Substance use and mental health issues. This role requires a deep understanding of various therapeutic modalities, community resources, and legal frameworks governing mental health services in Alberta. The Counsellor will work closely with an interdisciplinary clinical team to support client?s recovery and facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions.
*Responsibilities:*
* Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial-spiritual assessments using evidence-based tools to create and manage recovery plans
* Conducted in a collaborative manner between the resident and clinician. Create Individualized treatment plans based on the specific needs, goals and strengths identified through assessments.
* Utilize a range of intervention techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and trauma-informed care to address the specific needs of clients.
* Lead and co-facilitate process groups, promoting a recovery community model that emphasizes prosocial living and community as method.
* Work collaboratively with the clinical team to ensure cohesive support and optimal care for all clients.
* Communicate effectively with family members, partners, and other stakeholders as authorized by clients to keep them informed of progress and engage them in the recovery process.
* Provide progress reports to referral agents and other relevant parties as necessary, ensuring compliance with all related privacy regulations and standards.
* Advocate for client needs within the community, helping to navigate and access necessary resources.
* Educate clients and their support networks on mental health, recovery processes, and coping strategies to promote sustainable management of mental health conditions.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Alberta Mental Health Services Protection Act and other relevant legislation, ensuring all counseling practices comply with legal standards.
* Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in mental health treatment and recovery strategies.
* Demonstrate healthy behavior, effective conflict resolution skills, and professional integrity in all interactions with clients and staff.
* Uphold the ethical standards of the counseling profession and the policies of Calgary Recovery Community.
*Qualifications:*
* Degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, and/or professional certification from a recognized institution and governing body.
* Registered or eligible for registration with a recognized Alberta or Canadian regulatory body for health professionals.
* Minimum of three years' experience working in treatment and mental health care setting.
* Proven experience in providing counseling services, with a strong background in CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care.
* Experience facilitating and co-facilitating process and education groups
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and adept at crisis management
* Additional certifications in mental health interventions and therapies are considered an asset.
* Experience working within a Recovery Community model and understanding of the unique dynamics of such settings.
