*Job Title: Back-of-House Culinary Specialist (Chef) * Location: Buka Maranga Café ? Mississauga, ON L5N 5R3 We are seeking a skilled and passionate Back-of-House Culinary Specialist to join our dedicated kitchen team at Buka Maranga Café. As a Culinary Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the smooth operation of our kitchen?s preparation and cooking of high-quality dishes while ensuring that food safety standards are met. You?ll collaborate with our team to deliver an exceptional dining experience and contribute to a warm, welcoming café environment. *Key Responsibilities: * - Oversee the opening and closing of the kitchen, including bakery preparation, fresh baked goods, and ensuring all areas are clean and organized for the next shift. - Prepare and cook a diverse range of menu items, following established recipes and maintaining high presentation standards. - Execute food preparation tasks efficiently, ensuring the timely delivery of dishes during peak hours, and collaborate with the service line for a smooth workflow. - Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including refrigerators, freezers, dry storage, and workstations. Follow clean-as-you-go principles and ensure the kitchen is always in top condition. - Adhere to proper food handling and safety guidelines, ensuring compliance with health and sanitation standards. - Collaborate with the team to prioritize food orders, manage inventory levels, and place orders for ingredients and supplies as needed. - Assist with catering operations, including preparing custom platters for published menu items and client requests. - Contribute to menu planning and development, offering creative ideas for new dishes, specials, and seasonal menus. - Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, guiding them in cooking techniques, plating, and food presentation. - Participate in regular kitchen meetings and actively collaborate with front-of-house staff to enhance overall guest satisfaction. - Stay updated with industry trends, innovative cooking techniques, and ingredients to continuously improve culinary skills. *Requirements: * - Proven experience as a Chef or Cook in a fast-paced restaurant or café environment. - Solid knowledge of food preparation techniques, culinary trends, and best practices. - Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations. - Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and multitask effectively. - Excellent attention to detail in maintaining high food quality standards and presentation. - Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house staff. - Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. - Culinary degree or relevant certification is a plus. *Why Join Us? * - Competitive salary: $23?28 per hour, negotiable and based on experience and contribution - Full-time position with opportunities for growth and development in the culinary field. - Be part of a supportive, dynamic work environment that values creativity and collaboration. - Opportunity to contribute to a locally loved café known for its warm atmosphere and high-quality food. *Schedule: * - Monday to Saturday Work Location: In-person at Buka Maranga Café, Mississauga, ON L5N 5R3.
