OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Accountant to join our finance team for a maternity leave term of 2 years. The Accountant will manage the payroll process, ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations, and maintain accurate payroll records. There are also specific tasks included in this role that are part of the team's full cycle accounting process.The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll accounting principles and practice, an understanding of full cycle accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Responsibilities:Manage the payroll process, including new employee set up, processing payroll, verifying payroll data, processing stat holiday pay when required, managing group benefits, and ensuring accurate and timely payment of employees.Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations related to payroll, including tax withholding, benefits, and payroll deductions.Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare reports for management.Record payroll journal entries, reconcile payroll accounts and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.Communicate with employees regarding payroll-related inquiries and issues.Preparing year-end employee tax slips or formsDevelop and implement processes and procedures to improve payroll efficiency and accuracy.Other accounting and finance functions such as weekly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations, posting of various journal entries and invoices for period ends.Maintaining confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standardsRequirements:Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related fieldMinimum of 3-5 years of experience in payroll accountingStrong understanding of payroll accounting principles and practicesFamiliarity with PayworksExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environmentKnowledge of federal and provincial payroll regulationsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProficiency in Microsoft ExcelJoin our team as an Accountant where you will play a vital role in driving our financial success while developing your career in a supportive environment!
