Demands, duties, qualifications Definition of work: Reporting to the Director of Mental Health and Addictions, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing residential addictions and mental health treatment and withdrawal management services to youth between the ages of 11 and 18 with complex addictions and mental health needs. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team using evidence-based approaches to the treatment of substance use issues experienced by youth and their families. The Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. The successful candidate works independently in diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications, performing or ordering diagnostic tests and treatments, evaluating treatments and providing follow-up care in liaison with the primary care physician. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive and holistic nursing care to clients including health promotion, injury and illness treatment and prevention, supportive, curative and rehabilitative care in a family practice setting. Outpatient Treatment and other related Mental Health and Addictions Services may be required.As an advanced practitioner, the Nurse practitioner functions in the roles of practitioner, educator and leader. As governed by provincial regulations, he/she practices independently, collaborating with the primary care physicians in the area for issues outside the nurse practitioner's scope of practice. The successful candidate will be committed to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements. The Hope Valley Treatment center is home to a therapy dog which is often used as a part of therapeutic programming for clients. Employees will have regular contact with the therapy dog and will share responsibilities associated with the care of the dog. Required qualifications:* Graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by Central Health.* Current registration as a nurse practitioner with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.* Minimum of five years' experience working with clients with addictions at the Nurse Practitioner level within the last seven years.* Completion of the health assessment course or willingness to complete next available course.* Current BLS certification.* Ability to prescribe Opioid Replacement Therapy (Applicant must be willing to complete next available course if not already able)* Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development and current best practice approaches used to treat youth with complex additions and mental health needs. * Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills. * Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills.* Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment.* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE).* A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.* A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.Preferred Qualifications:* Completion of CNA certification in psychiatry is preferred.
