People like you!This is specialized work in providing direct support services to crime and trauma victims and witnesses. The Victim Services Caseworker attends to police crisis call-outs such as crimes, serious accidents and domestic disputes; provides crisis intervention support, information and referrals to distressed victims and witnesses; as well as any follow-up required. Other duties include transporting clients, contacting family members, arranging for or providing emergency transportation. As requested by clients, provides on-going emotional support to victims; makes referrals to related agency resources such as counseling, financial assistance, child care, and legal advice; in consultation with investigating officer updates clients on police investigation progress; assists victims in completing forms and victim impact statements; informs clients of their case?s progress; conducts court orientation with victims and witnesses; accompanies clients to court or arranges the same. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, preferably supplemented by courses in social services, victim services, trauma intervention or criminology, plus considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge the principles, practices and techniques of crisis intervention and follow-up support as needed, along with a working knowledge of court and police procedures, sound knowledge of available community resources. Ability to effectively provide direct services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma, often under difficult circumstances; to prepare records related to the work; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Driver?s License for the Province of British Columbia (Class 5) is required as well as the ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.Pay Rate: $34.63 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefitsHours of Work: Hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and are scheduled to cover standby periods. Typical in office shifts are Sunday to Saturday from 7:00am to 7:00pm and on call shifts are Sunday to Saturday from 6:00pm to 8:00am. Successful applicants are required to be ?on-call? for various times as needed (e.g. overnight on weeknights, weekends and holidays) while on standby to be called to the detachment.
