Career Flex-FirefighterFull-time Regular - IAFF union positions7 day a week, 56 day work cycleClosing date: Friday, December 20th, 2024 An exciting opportunity to join the City of Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service These exciting positions offer the opportunity to contribute in a very direct and personal way to the fire department and the greater community. As members in the department, you will be expected to exemplify the core values and professional behaviors expected of our staff and will be a skilled firefighter, exceptional teammate, engaging communicator and outstanding ambassador for the City. Successful candidates will be required to perform a variety of job functions including; fire suppression activities, assisting at medical incidents, mechanical and protective equipment maintenance, fire inspections, fire prevention education, community initiatives and other related duties as required. Special Requirements:All candidates must be at least 19 years of age and eligible to legally work in Canada. These positions will require the candidates to reside within the IAFF Local 4810 living boundaries. Living boundaries for IAFF career firefighters and officers are as follows: South: Canada-US border East: City of Chilliwack West: Pacific Ocean North: West Vancouver Application Package:Submit a detailed resume, including copies of all supporting documents, accompanied by a cover letter detailing how you meet our expectations. Application must include applicable certificates, a current (5 year) Drivers Abstract as well as a current Candidate Physical Ability - CPAT or UVic Fire-Fit certificate.CPAT or Fire-Fit certificates, if not available at time of application, must be submitted at the date of first interview Successful applicants will be required to pass a Firefighter Medical Examination according to the standards set out in NFPA 1582, upon conditional job offer. Upon conditional job offer, successful applicants will be required to consent to a Police Information Check (with vulnerable sector), reflecting no convictions of a relevant criminal offense for which a pardon has not been granted.Recruitment Process (dates are to be determined): Submit an application Screening process Written exam Skills exam 1st Interview Ride along 2nd Interview Candidate selection Reference checks Conditional job offer Criminal record check Health and medical evaluationRequired Qualifications:Interested applicants must ensure they meet the following required qualifications by the application deadline and the required qualifications must still be current and valid by date of hire: Minimum High School graduation or equivalent. Completion of NFPA 1001 with appropriate IFSAC or Pro Board Seals. Current and valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board (EMALB) License First Responder (FR) or higher with AED. We do not accept OFA licensing. Valid BC Class 5 Driver?s Licence (for automatic vehicles) without restrictions, with Air Brake endorsement and no suspensions within the last 5 years (or equivalent from another province or territory). Not more than six (6) points on your safe driving record in the most recent 5 years at the time of the application closing date. Candidates must demonstrate safe and responsible driving behaviour. Preferred Qualifications:These additional skills and experiences will enhance your application but do not replace the required qualifications: Work experience related to firefighting such as auxiliary/volunteer firefighting, first aid attendant, paramedic, or forestry firefighting. Completion of a Post-secondary education program (Certificate, Diploma, Associate Degree, or Degree). Enrollment in or completion of a Trade Certification (Interprovincial Standards Red Seal). Employment in a profession that demonstrates mechanical aptitude. Experience volunteering and community involvement. Fluent in other languages. Additional fire-related courses (eg.
