*Job Summary*
Opticians typically require special certifications and skills. They are expected to have an Opticianry certification or an Associate degree in Opticianry, from a recognized institution. Importantly, they should have strong customer service and sales skills, enabling them to advise patients effectively and increase sales. Prior to becoming an Optician, individuals might have roles as an Optometric Assistant, Optical Sales Associate, or Optical Lab Technician, providing them with industry experience and a foundation of knowledge in vision care.Opticians also perform adjustments, repairs, and replacements, ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of the patients.
* Greet and assist customers in selecting eyeglasses and contact lenses based on their needs and preferences.
* Perform fittings and adjustments to ensure proper eyewear fit.
* Educate patients on lens options, frame materials, and care instructions.
* Maintain accurate patient records, including prescriptions and sales transactions.
* Collaborate with optometrists to ensure seamless patient care.
* Manage inventory of eyewear products and supplies, including placing orders as needed.
* Stay updated on optical trends, products, and technology to provide informed recommendations.
* Handle retail sales transactions efficiently while maintaining a positive customer experience.

*Requirements*
* Previous experience in retail sales or optical environment preferred.
* Familiarity with medical terminology related to eye care is a plus.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly to customers.
* Experience with laboratory processes related to eyewear production is advantageous.
* Knowledge of electronic health record systems such as Epic is beneficial but not required.
* A background in optical or retail management is a plus for candidates seeking leadership opportunities.
* Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
