Park InterpreterPosition Title: Park Interpreter (Multiple Positions)Position Status: Full-Time Temporary / AuxiliaryDepartment: Parks & EnvironmentEmployee Group: Teamsters Local 31 Do you have a passion for nature and the outdoors and enjoy connecting with the community? We invite you to join us to help protect Metro Vancouver?s natural areas and connect people with them. As a park interpreter, you will be part of a dynamic team that develops and delivers field trips, public programs and events designed to connect people with nature, as well as share the importance of protecting natural areas and interpreting the special features within them. TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU HAVE: A valid Occupational First Aid Certificate (Level 1) A valid BC Driver?s License, Class 5 Access to a vehicle Canoe Flatwater II certification is desirableREQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Park Interpreter I: completed one year of post-secondary education and some interpretive experience Park Interpreter II: post-secondary graduation and interpretive work experience Solid knowledge of local natural and cultural history as demonstrated by academic training and/or self-directed learning Sound knowledge of interpretive principles and methods demonstrated through work experience and interpretive training or accreditation. This includes: themed program design and delivery, prop, activity and game development, event delivery and leading guided walks Experience working with children*, school groups, families and adults in an outdoor setting*Recruitment of the successful candidate is subject to successfully passing a Criminal Records Search. DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Training in interpretation, natural history, environmental education, outdoor recreation or equivalent combination of training and experience Experience in creating interpretive displays and props Experience working with volunteers and/or partner organizations to assist in planning and presenting specific programs and events Ability to lift event equipment and materials, ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and ability to walk extended distances on trails to lead tours and events WAGE RATE (2024 rates, plus 12% in lieu of benefits):Park Interpreter l: $28.37 - $33.25 per hourPark Interpreter ll: $30.70 - $36.08 per hourWORK TERMS:Various positions available ranging from four to ten-month work terms from January to November 2025HOURS OF WORK:Vary with position from 14 to 36.25 hours per weekApplicants must be available to work flexible days and hours, including weekends, evenings and holidaysOUR VISION:Metro Vancouver embraces collaboration and innovation in providing sustainable regional services that contribute to a livable and resilient region and a healthy natural environment for current and future generations.
