*POSITION DESCRIPTION:* Reporting to the Manager, Laboratory Services, the MLA works under the supervision of a regulated health professional ( i.e. Senior MLT Quality/POCT, Nurse, Manager Laboratory Services, Integrated Director of Diagnostics) is responsible for performing a variety of routine laboratory duties including specimen collection and handling, electrocardiograms, routine testing (i.e. chemistry, hematology, urinalysis), clerical and support functions in accordance with written policies and established criteria. *QUALIFICATIONS:* * Minimum grade 12 or equivalent and two years laboratory training. * Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant/Technician Training Program or equivalent education required. * Certification as a Laboratory Assistant/Technician with the Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario (MLPAO) or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). * Minimum one year experience as an MLA (preferred) * Recent ECG experience. * Ability to work as team player and independently in a fast-paced environment in stressful situations. * Computer skills. * Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position. * Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record. In addition, the successful candidate must be available to work day shifts, along with weekends and statutory holidays. An ability to attend work on a consistent basis is also a requirement.
