Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Carpentry/carpenter. Work site environment: At heights. Outdoors. Work setting: Construction. Various locations. Renovation. Commercial. Industrial. Institutional. Residential. Roads and bridges. Tasks: Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs. Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements. Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools. Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials. Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems. Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware. Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites. Survey building locations and levels. Estimate costs and materials. Operate CADD and other computer software systems. Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Carpenter Trade Certification. Working at heights training. Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) clearance Certificate. First Aid Certificate. CPR Certificate. Transportation/travel information: Own transportation. Willing to travel. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Own tools/equipment: Tools. Safety equipment/gear. Steel-toed safety boots. Hard hat. Safety glasses/goggles. Safety vest.
