*What You?ll Do*
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Negotiations Manager is responsible for providing oversight and leadership of all external relations and negotiations that may impact FNFN?s lands and resources. These negotiations may include government-to-government agreements between FNFN and the Provincial or Federal Governments, as well as agreements with industrial proponents seeking to conduct activities within FNFN?s Traditional Territory.
The Negotiations Manager plays a critical role in ensuring continuity across negotiations and external relationships, connecting these discussions to relevant staff and leadership. This individual oversees one direct report and will work closely with external consultants. This Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple timelines and communications to maintain momentum and ensure negotiations progress efficiently.
In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Negotiations Manager ensures the consistent application of FNFN?s mandates, policies, and vision, while safeguarding the protection and maintenance of FNFN?s Treaty Rights and Title. The Negotiations Manager regularly works with the Executive Director and department staff, and will at times work with Chief and Council to ensure alignment with FNFN?s strategic priorities. Other related duties as assigned.
*Valued Qualification*
*Experience:*
* 5 to 10 years of experience in natural resources and/or lands management negotiations
* Experience in program and policy development, planning, and implementation
* Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization
*Knowledge:*
* University degree in a related field (e.g., public administration, natural resources management, land management, First Nations studies) or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Knowledge of economic and resource development issues affecting FNFN
* Understanding of relevant federal, provincial, and local legislation, policies and procedures
* Familiarity with the cultural and political environment of northeast BC
*Skills:*
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills (includes business documentation) with the ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences
* Strong analytical, strategic planning and project management skills
* Excellent organizational and time management skills
* Excellent computer skills and ability to use MS Office and Google Workspace? applications.
*Abilities:*
* Ability to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one?s own
* Ability to manage diverse and evolving program requirements
* Ability to identify key issues and develop effective negotiating strategies
* Ability to lead long and short-term strategic planning initiatives
* Ability to develop and manage budgets
*Other (required):*
* Compliance with BC Immunization program and TB Screening.
* Satisfactory completion of a police information check may be required.
* Ability to provide own transportation to work.
* Valid Class 5 BC Driver?s License and Drivers Abstract.
*Work Setting*
Core business hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. Majority of work time is spent in an office environment. Interacts will all levels of the organization, government, and public. Required to attend evening meetings and provide public presentations. Required to occasionally drive a company fleet vehicle and will travel for business trips at least once quarterly. This position is overtime exempt.
