Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Installation. Urban area. Maintenance. Rural area. Testing. Tasks: Inspect and test cable signals and associated equipment. Install and maintain aerial and underground telephone equipment. Read blueprints to determine work requirements . Test equipment to locate transmission faults. Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders or other support structures. Install cable modems and software to enable Internet access. Maintain and repair aerial and underground transmission systems. Splice, join and connect wires. Equipment and machinery experience: Fibre optics. Security and safety: Bondable. Transportation/travel information: Willing to travel. Travel expenses paid by employer. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to distinguish between colours. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Manual dexterity. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Hard hat. Safety glasses/goggles. Personal suitability: Flexibility. Reliability.
