Winnipeg's former Sherbrook Inn vendor and bar recently reopened in late January under the name Kyoto Kat Club after closing in May 2024 for renovations. The bar plans to increase their hours of operation by mid-March.

However, the number of new businesses opening in the neighbourhood has increased for the first time since the pandemic. Nick’s on Broadway, a downtown Winnipeg eatery, is permanently closing due to financial difficulties. According to Restaurants Canada, 53% of Manitoba restaurants are losing money or just breaking even, compared to just 19% prior to the pandemic.
Norm ‘n Nates, a Winnipeg delicatessen, has permanently closed after 37 years. It most recently operated as a takeout and catering business in the St. James neighbourhood, and suffered financial losses as a result of the pandemic.

American fast food chain Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers will open its first Canadian location in Winnipeg next spring. The Kildonan-area eatery will be the first of at least three franchise locations in the city and 20 across Canada. It will employ 50-60 staff.
