Are you looking for an exciting entry-level position where you?ll be exposed to a wide range of contemporary planning issues? The City of Delta is seeking an enthusiastic team member, researcher, and analyst to support the work of the Community Planning team. This Planner Technician 1 role is for an individual who is excited at the prospect of helping to shape Delta?s future growth as the City responds to new provincial legislation.Delta?s Community Planning team is a small but mighty group of policy planners within the Development Department responsible for a diverse range of planning portfolios: housing, land use, agricultural, heritage, and more. This Planning Technician 1 would be tasked with a wide variety of work, including: conducting research to inform policy initiatives and Council reports, assisting in the preparation and delivery of public engagement events related to policy or development projects, collecting and analyzing data to support policy projects, helping to update bylaws, and assisting with the preparation of Council reports, memos, and funding applications.The ideal candidate will be an organized team player, critical thinker, self-starter, and strong communicator who can represent the department in a professional manner. Candidates should have: Degree in an appropriate discipline, at minimum Bachelors, and preferably a postgraduate degree in Planning Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and methods applicable to land use planning and policy development Some experience in researching, developing, and implementing planning projects, including the ability to generate recommendations Strong communication skills with some experience communicating or engaging with the public, the ability to explain technical concepts, and some experience preparing concise and accurate written deliverables and presentations for decision-makers Knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, bylaws, and legislation applicable to land use planning in BC and the City of Delta Ability to interpret, understand, and, where applicable, apply department objectives, plans, and policies to daily work Some knowledge of the Local Government Act or Vancouver Charter, Community Charter, Housing Supply Act, and/or Housing Statutes Amendment Acts (Bills 44, 46, 46, and or 16) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contactsWorkload would be assigned based on both your skill set and departmental needs, and may include agricultural, housing, heritage, environmental, development, and/or land use planning.Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of BC and the Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred. This position requires a valid BC Class 5 Driver?s Licence or equivalent.The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $43.78-$51.70 per hour +12% in lieu of benefits.
